MN Sustainability

As a lead agency in the solid waste state government workgroup, MPCA strives to lead by example. We are getting closer to the goal but there still much work to do. We prioritize reduction of waste overall and promoting reuse. We account for less than 1% of state government’s total waste generation.

We are working to increase organics collection at facilities outside of the metropolitan area. We’ve worked to enhance data accuracy, especially at regional offices. We lead by example using co-located bins, consistent and easy to understand signage, regular communication and education, recurring waste sorts to understand what is being discarded, and removing desk-side bins.

We prioritize reduction and reuse by creating a stock of reusables at all office locations and we have a central stock of small and large event party packs with reusable service ware and cloth napkins that allow for truly zero waste events. We continue to promote the Green Meeting Policy to ensure all agency events are zero waste events.

Initiating sustainable goals

Sustainability fits wholly within the mission of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), which is to protect and improve the environment and human health. MPCA is dedicated to meeting its sustainability goals and leading by example.
